Hurry Up And Wait

You may have noticed an absence of posts.

This has been intentional.

After August, I noticed my blog became more and more political. At first, i liked that. Then, the TV ads started coming in, and it just became overwhelming. So I stopped writing, because I didn't want to be part of all of that noise, coming at everyone from all sides. There was enough punditry and finger-pointing; there certainly wasn't any extra needed from my keyboard.

Shortly thereafter, I had a change in employers, but I'm still on the road.

In the meantime, I acquired a new iPhone 4, keeping my older iPhone 3G for work. And its more powerful photo capabilities reminded me of an interview I had seen with Carly Simon once, probably more than 10 years ago. She did something I thought was fascinating, and I wanted to follow suit.

Carly takes one photograph every day. It doesn't really matter what it is, but it's something just to capture the day, so that she can look back through her life and see it captured day by day. "What a brilliant concept," I thought, at the time. "I should do that."

Ten years later, it never happened. The main culprit was my laziness, but I also blame the cost and hassle of 35mm film then. Now, I have a camera with me at all times, so there are no excuses.

And of course, Twitter and Facebook happened. Sometimes, I've just had nothing pithy to say. Sometimes I can get my thoughts out in 140 characters. Sometimes, I can just type it out on Facebook. Some days I just keep my mouth shut. But I need to write more, even if no one reads, just an an exercise to keep my brain stimulated, my vocabulary full and my thoughts focused.

So beginning in January, I'm going to relaunch this blog in earnest. Expect more. Hopefully you'll comment and join in the conversation.

And thank you for your patience.
