The Google Miracle

Oh Lordy,

What a weekend it's been! When I posted Friday, I didn't think I needed to even think about responses to my thoughts on the Facebook "welfare/drug test" posts, because who the hell reads my little blog anyways? I know I have a few friends that do (thank you, by the way), but other than that, it's usually kids looking for pictures of Lady Gaga or something.

Apparently this is a rather hot topic from the Freeper/Glenn Beck/Fox set, because I have had two people already come from Googleland to tell me how wrong I am. A guy from south Texas and a guy camped out in a Dunkin Donuts in New Jersey have both found the blog and commented on basically what a wrong-headed liberal I am.

I actually love it — I love comments, or else I would have disabled them long ago. I like debate, especially political debate. The best kind of debate is from people who actually know their stuff.

It is more than a bit annoying when that whole Tea Party mentality comes out — the whole "China is invading us tomorrow!!!!!" mindset where people feel like they can just make up a sentence and have it be true. That's kinda creepy. In fact, I named this blog "Because I Said So" because I thought it was a cute take on what a little kid would say when putting his opinion out there, not because I expected right-wingers to actually make shit up. But, there you are.

Still, I do enjoy the civilized debate. I have yet to not approve a comment, because I truly do enjoy the interactivity of the blog. It makes it more than just a journal. But if they keep going in the "trolling" direction, then I might start.

Basically, if you want to comment, please do. I want to hear from you! But if you're going to challenge what I say, bring your "A game." Prove me wrong. I'm man enough to answer and not get into name-calling.

This country was founded on good debate and a strong sense of factual accuracy (hence, freedom of the press and civil libel laws). I'd like to continue that debate. Let's be more Madison/Jefferson and less Hannity/O'Reilly.
