MORE on the welfare posts...

It has occurred to me that I should have gone into more detail about why this particular issue chaps my hide so much. It's because the issue is a smoke-screen.

Oil companies — which are enjoying the highest profits on record — are getting subsidies from the U.S. government. What kind of equivalent to drug-screening are they getting? Where is the outrage over that? Why no Facebook posts by the same people?

Right now, people all across the country are being paid by the government not to farm. Again, where's the screening on that? Why no outrage?

A government handout is a government handout, regardless if it goes to a person down on their luck or to a faceless corporation. We know where the biggest chunk of government dollars is going (I'm looking at you, ExxonMobil), but instead, someone somewhere decided to gin up a furor over the possibility that someone taking public assistance might be on some sort of drug. It's always easy to find a scapegoat.

So spare me the fake indignation over the purported drug abuse by welfare recipients (stats/facts, please?). If you're going to bitch, at least bitch about something that's very real and very pertinent. Otherwise, you're just crying wolf.
